Gawker, New York’s premier gossip site, has created a version of the New York subway map based on the vast array of smells – both nasty and nice (mostly nasty though) – to be found in the city’s underground network. They asked readers to submit entries and have created a novel ‘smells map’, which you can check out here.
I’d suggest that we get one going for London’s Tube, but for the fact that every other entry would read ‘piss’. If the Tube does smell of ‘perfumes’ and ‘food’ and ‘alcohol’ then these odours can’t cut through the overwhelming stench of urine that pervades our capital’s underground system.
