Now this is cool. Forget the hundreds of silly USB gadgets that have sprung up in the last few months (despite the fact that no-one I know has ever bought a single one of them. Ever.) Instant FM Music is shaped like a USB key, but lets you tune into FM and web radio stations, record individual programmes, and even identify the songs on the playlist. It’s made by ADS Tech.
The Tivo-like features come from the bundled Snaptune One software, which lets you pause and rewind live radio, listen to any song recorded in the last week, and go online to buy related downloads or CD albums. The gadget also sorts your recordings into iPod-friendly files. What the music industry will make of it is anyone’s guess, but for now, it’s rocketed to the top of Brandish’s Christmas wishlist.
