Pointer Seeker III canvas trainers

Picture_4_31 Formed in 2004, Pointer is made up of designers who have worked with achingly hip brands like Silas, Carhartt, and Blueprint Skateboards, among others. The Seeker III Canvas is a simple summer shoe with canvas and suede upper, and would look great with khakis, denim or board shorts (not Speedos though). They're available from The Glade, for a very reasonable £33.50. BUY THEM

Johnny Greenwood is the Controller, a selection of reggae compiled by Johnny Greenwood

B000m345d801_aa240_sclzzzzzzz_ Johnny Greenwood, as you may or may not know, is Radiohead's lead guitarist. When he's not composing mind-bending guitar solos for one of the world's greatest rock bands, he likes to kick back, twist up a fat one (maybe) and listen to reggae. Johnny spent months digging through the back catalogue of Trojan Records to come up with this splendid compilation, featuring rare cuts from the likes of Lee Perry, Desmond Dekker, Gregory Isaacs and Linval Thompson. Highly recommended. BUY IT

Let's Rock candle

Picture_2_113 This Let's Rock candle is truly the Ozzy Osbourne of candles. Or the Motorhead of candles. Or the Iron Maiden of candles. Or the Whitesnake of candles. Or... well, you get the picture - it's a candle for rock gods, and also you. It comes in a range of bright colours, including black, black and, er, black. Henry Ford would approve; Ozzy, Lemmy and co would obviously accept nothing less.

And yes, there is something a little disturbing about a candle in the shape of a 'double viking' fist - which finger will burn down quickest, do you think? Available from Urban Outfitters, for the reduced price of £15 (was £18). BUY IT

R2-D2 Pedal Bin

R2d2_pedalbinStar Wars, as we all know, is the king of merchandising. Quite a lot of it is complete tat aimed at 10 year olds... but occassionally, you get a diamond amongst the rough.

This particular gem comes in the form of a pedal bin shaped like R2-D2. The Artoo bin is made by Japanese company Heart, but is being imported to various countries at the moment - including the UK. It stands 24 inches tall, has a foot lever that flips open R2's head for your waste and a removable interior for ease of emptying. You can order one now, but it's not cheap. Currently going for £99.

'The Steep Approach to Garbadale' by Iain Banks

Picture_1_283 Iain Banks, author of The Wasp Factory, The Crow Road and Complicity, to name just three of his novels, is one of my favourite British authors. His prose is imaginative and shot through with black humour. So I'm always excited when he has a new book out. The Steep Approach to Garbadale has been favourably reviewed, with many critics acclaiming it as his best book in years.

The novel traces the recent history of the Wopuld family, which built its fortune on a board game called Empire. I've only just received my hardback copy via Amazon, so haven't had a chance to finish it yet. So far though, it's shaping up to be yet another cracking read from the pen of Banks. BUY IT

Howies 'Adrenaline is cheaper then cocaine' t-shirt

Me_adrenaline_heather Made from soft, 100% organic cotton, this t-shirt is part of Howies' shiny new range for this spring/summer. I have to agree with its slogan, too - cocaine is an overpriced drug for wankers; and if you're not a wanker, it'll turn you into a wanker before you can say 'Where did that 50-pound note go?' Adrenaline, on the other hand, is not only cheaper - it's absolutely free.

Available in heather grey, from the company's own website, for £25. BUY IT
