I’ve just been browsing the pictures of the attendees of Swarovski Fashion Rocks on Thursday night as they arrived for this night of fashion and music in aid of the Prince’s Trust. It makes you realize what an odd existence it must be to be a celebrity, posing in unnatural positions in an outfit you didn’t choose. It also made me realize what an easy gig Joan Rivers had at the Academy Awards making nasty comments about what people turned up in – seriously, it would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Which is why I’m going to fight the urge to make bitchy comments. We’ll see how I get on.
The event pairs music artists with designers – so you had Lily Allen representing Chanel (and looking very nice); Beth Ditto representing Christopher Kane (looking like a vampirish vamp); Iggy Pop for Versace (looking like Iggy Pop); and Razorlight for Burberry (looking disappointingly boring – I didn’t think it was possible to be disappointed in people you have such low expectations of, but life’s full of surprises). See after the jump for more images.
My best dressed of the night (a prestigious prize) goes to Roisin
Murphy in her Gucci get up. I been thinking Roisin’s wardrobe has been
somewhat attention-seeking of late, but here she looks gorgeous, like
Grace Kelly. The effect is somewhat spoiled by Gucci designer Frida
Giannini, who looks like one of Atomic Kitten. Now, was that bitchy?
Giantess Joss Stone wore Calvin Klein and I can’t really imagine
anyone less appropriate to represent the label’s brand of American
classic. Her a coral pink shift dress clung to her lumps and flattened
her chest, and the white bondage shoes were just nasty. I preferred her
in the psychedelic vomit-print dress she wore at the Brits. Ok, that
Models, Jasmin Le Bon, Naomi and Kate all looked hot. Miss Patti
LaBelle, bless her, looked like she’d been upholstered (I’ve given up
now). Princess Beatrice is the product of a broken marriage and a royal
to boot so I’ll hold my tongue.
The photos are still coming through but I’ve not seen many men
dressed in anything worth talking about. I don’t mind what the night’s
host, Samuel L. Jackson was wearing and I’m pleased he made an effort. Jefferson Hack turned up looking sharp with girlfriend Anouck Lepère.
So yes, an easy gig for Joan, but one I imagine was hard to resist.
