It seems that Tomas Maier at Bottega Veneta is sticking to his trusted formula for Autumn-Winter 2008. The casual wear is nowt to write home about but the formal wear is enough to bring covetous tears to my eyes.
Shoulder peaks again reach for the heavens, lapels are wide and the trousers hang in expensive pleats. Although it’s not the most directional label – Maier is neither a trend-setter nor a trend-follower – the whole thing is so accomplished, it can’t help to instil in the wearer the quiet confidence of someone who knows he’s hot shit, but doesn’t have to crow about it.
