One last Milan Catwalk Report: Gucci

Never let it be said that we don’t respond to our fan(s) here at Brandish, that we’re not mere branches swaying in the wind of your approval or censure. This one’s for you Jérôme.
Having dispensed with the designers of the other Gucci lines, the very gorgeous Frida Giannini is now in her second year as Creative Director of Gucci. With her fourth menswear collection she has firmly established her aesthetic – louche, sultry, and very very Italian.

For AW08, Frida has been listening to gypsy punks Gogol Bordello,
who Madonna brought to the attention of the world by sharing the stage
with them at Live Earth. Frida festooned her models with chains and
scarves and dangling coins and the odd bit of folk embroidery. And so
Madonna sparks another trend, and this children, is why we love
Madonna.
Despite this connection to our Madgesty, I find the collection a bit
blah. It’s wearable and will probably sell well but there’s nothing
really to inspire. I welcome the inclusion of leather trousers, which
have been on quite a few catwalks, but not the fur. This is called
hypocrisy.
And so to Paris…

Their prices are high, but not out of line for “double decade” grade shoes. My last two pairs of American made all leather inside and out Florshiem casual boots cost 225 each back in the 80′s… and that was a custom made purchase of the last used (no longer shows size… boots are marked with my name) when the model was discontinued otherwise. I still have both pairs and they are in good condition, although I did switch both to Vibram soles last time around.
