Milan Fashion Week Catwalk Report: Etro
Etro has grown as a brand, with womenswear enjoying a revival with some help from designer Veronica Etro. The challenge was on for menswear designer (and Veronica's brother) Kean Etro to take the menswear beyond mere cult status level.
The direction in which Etro has headed with this collection seems more like a direct continuation of their A/W 07 range, rather than simply trying to be as outrageous as possible. This is a good thing. The splashes of colour that were added to last year's collections in short bursts has been upped a couple of notches and we're treated to orange and lime green jackets which don't look hideous. In fact, they almost look wearable, if not for the fact that any man on the street wearing this would look like a pimp.
Etro's plaid fetish adds a college professor/English gentleman's feel to the outfit and leaves them looking distinguished. Personally, I'm a real fan of the look on the far left of the above picture. The whole look is perfect, from the fedora to the shoes. I especially like the matching jumper and pocket square. This collection stands out from others in that it's bold, striking and wearable, which is a balance that's very hard to strike. If Etro carry one like this, they should move beyond cult status sooner than expected.
