Despite resistance from some corners (corners I happen to reside in), boat shoes are back in a big way. Skeptics are being converted, neutrals sporting them as if they’d been stored, boxfresh, waiting for a return to sartorial acceptance.
Personally, outside of their intended use or the polo / chino / sweater-over-the-shoulders crowd you expect to see them on, I think it’s fashion for the few. If you see someone pull them off, your best bet is to quietly admire rather than attempt to emulate.
Still feeling brave? The look I’ve been most impressed with in the past couple of weeks is sockless, under skinnies. Which kinda reinforces the last point.
A couple of the recent boat shoe releases, top to bottom:
- Vans Zapato Del Barco,
- David Z for Sebago 25th Anniversary deck shoe,
- Billonaire Boys Club
