There’s a glut of peacoats on the streets this winter, in all price categories. A long-time staple on the other side of the Atlantic, the peacoat has never really dominated the men’s coat market over here – until now. Wondering how to wear it well and stand out if you’ve already invested in one? The first step is to honour its roots as a functional item worn by matelots and other outdoor types. So a great pair of jeans, sturdy boots, a striped sweater and beanie hats are all givens and will pass any inspection.
For something dressier, a stand-out scarf in a luxe knit or striking colour will add contrast. Badges give character to plain lapels otherwise a great bag: (duffle-bag worn matelot style over one shoulder? vintage briefcase?) is your chance to stand out from the dark serge crowd.
