Tony Hart, the much-loved presenter of Hartbeat and Take Hart passed away aged 83, after a spell in hospital for a chest infection. He joins Oliver Postgate, creator of Clangers and Bagpuss, as one of a kind children’s TV figures who are irreplaceable and will be sorely missed. Tony Hart was also the man responsible for the Blue Peter badge and thus monopolising all that is great about children’s TV in the ’80s.

There is much lamenting on the internet from all the people who never made it onto his infamous gallery. As a tribute to the great man wear your best paisley silk scarf, shirt, v-neck jumper and try your most impressive rendition of a riverside nightscape using black sugar paper and chalk.
