Gingham is a perfect summer version of the plaid flannel many of us have been wearing to death this winter, whilst being reminiscent of checked table cloths and equally American in outlook.
Gingham can be dressed up for the office with a contrasting knitted tie in plain black or a contrast stripe. Wear at the weekend with indigo jeans, cropped trousers or chino shorts. Black and white is strong but brights work equally well (mine’s royal blue and white). I’ve seen yellow, pink, purple and red do wonders. The main thing for me is the fit (hence the refit – RLR is not yet available in the UK and it was a mis-judged NYC purchase).
Slim fitting, not overly long in the sleeves and definitely not a billowing, untucked tent of a thing is the ideal to focus on.
