Not long to wait now. Record Store Day is coming a week on Saturday and I’ll be spending that day hunting down obscure 80s indie singles and long lost psych albums.
And to celebrate – well we have got in a tad early – here is a list of ten of the greatest albums that have are vinyl only and have never had a CD reissue.
Except a few of them have – but either on dodgy low quality bootlegs or in legit reissues that have never ever turned up in the UK.
Anyhow, the best way to hear them is buying the vinyl. Here’s our list. What have we missed?
Scott Walker - Songs From His TV Series £15
In among his peerless run of four solo albums from the late 60s Scott Walker also made a TV show which featured his interpretations of some classic songs alongside cameos from some fabulous guest stars. The best recordings were rounded up on this accompanying vinyl albums, which unlike pretty much everything else in the Walker cann, has never got a full reissue. Many of the album’s highlights, including strong versions of Someone to Light Up My Life and The Impossible Dream are available on compilations but his snappy Sinatra-esque Will You Still Be Mine and the Hammerstein cover The Song Is You are among a quartet of songs only available here
