Liverpool’s dilemma. Is £56 million plus Sanchez a good deal for Suarez?

Ok, so you can take much of what has been written about Luis Suarez over the past week with a huge dollop of salt. But even the most die-hard reds can’t deny that Liverpool’s red hot striker isn’t on the wish list of just about every big club in the world.

So personally I would ignore Daily Star gossip like this

Spanish newspaper Sport claim that the Uruguayan striker told his friends about his desire to leave Anfield in a telephone call last week.

And this

Mundo Deportivo claimed last week that Suarez has told his agent Pere Guardiola, who is the brother of former Barca boss Pep Guardiola, that he wants to move to the Nou Camp.

But I do wonder if now might be the right time for Liverpool to cash in on the talismanic Uruguayan.

Of course it is is total speculation – but if reports that Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is willing to offer £56m plus Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez for Suarez are true then should Brendan Rodgers not be tempted.

Cash in now and he not only gains one of the most impressive players from the World cup in Sanchez (who at 25 is younger than Suarez), but also a huge war chest we he could use to strengthen Liverpool’s squad in areas where it needs more surgery – mainly the defence (Rojo). There would probably also be enough cash for another maruqee signing too (Balotelli and maybe even Lallana?).

Losing Suarez would be very hard for Liverpool fans to take, and there is also the fact that a whole load of new players can’t truly replace one world class player (see Bale and Tottenham), but if the Barca rumour is true and Suarez wants out then the offer sounds very tempting.
