He might not have played a game yet in Brazil, but that hasn’t stopped Man United from stepping up their bid to land Southampton and England’s exciting left back Luke Shaw.
The Daily Mail has gone with the story that United have agreed a salary of £100,000 a week with the player, and that most of the groundwork on the deal was done by David Moyes.
It also seems likely that United will have to pay £30 million to land the teenager – a few million more than their pre-World Cup bid.
So is Shaw worth the money? Southampton fans clearly think so, while stats site Squawka reports that he made 32 key passes last season, the second highest total of all under-21 defenders in the top five European leagues.
The Mail also suggests that United will move again for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen after the World Cup. The Belgian’s contract runs out at the end of the season for it seems likely that Arsenal will cash in on the player and that United seems his preferred option.
