Spanish football guru Guillem Balague has today tweeted that former Arsenal striker, Carlos Vela has ended speculation linking him with a move back to the Emirates after the Mexican penned a new 4-year-deal at Real Sociedad. It has been confirmed now too.
Vela sealed a move away from Arsenal in 2012 after his first team opportunities were limited; however, Arsene Wenger was said to be looking at bringing the youngster back after impressing in Spain.
Those rumours have been put to bed now as Vela signed a 4-year-contract extension at Sociedad.
It will be interesting to see the fall out from the move. A sizable proportion of Arsenal fans were disappointed when he left for Spain in the first place and many were hoping to welcome him back. Their appetite was further whetted by comments from his team mate Antoine Griezmann who suggested that the Mexican was the equal of Arsenal’s number one transfer target Karim Benzema.
At the moment we don’t know exactly how much Arsenal will have secured to release Vela from that buy back clause, though the rumours are it could be around £8.8 million.
Some Arsenal fans were also hoping that the deal has been agreed as part of an arrangement which would see French winger Antoine Griezmann heading for The Emirates. We will have to wait and see that happens with that story.
So Arsenal fans are you sad that Vela is not coming back?
