Everything seemed to point to this one happening. Arsenal need a new marquee striker. Wenger has been a fan of Balotelli for years. Milan are happy to let him go and the Italian has close links with the Gunners new team shirt provider Puma.
But… According to the Arsenal manager Balotelli won’t be the pin up boy for Arsenal and Puma when the new kit is launched on July 6th.
In an interview for beIN Sport, Wenger called the story “pure invention”.
He said: “We cannot believe absolutely everything that is on the internet or in the papers. Sometimes it is created by agents or by press who need news. But in this case, it’s not true.”
Of course Wenger has gone on record denying that deals were imminent before and then unveiling the player a few weeks later, as he did for Lukas Podolski.
So, I don’t know about you but I ma not ruling this one out just yet. I fully expect to see a marquee player at Arsenal by July 6th and Magic Mario, who is possibly heading off on holiday after Italy’s embarrassing World Cup exit, still seems to be the favoured choice.
Incidentally Mario is 1-2 to sign for Arsenal from Bet Victor
