The Daily Mirror are today reporting that Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger is keen on stepping up his interest in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
New Southampton manager Ronald Koeman will have his work cut out convincing the Frenchman to stay at St Mary’s after Luke Shaw joined Manchester United last week and captain Adam Lallana looks set to join Rickie Lambert at Liverpool. Doubt remains around defender Dejan Lovren too who may be ready to join former coach Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur.
For Arsene Wenger, who has spent part of his summer out in Brazil, a deal for the holding midfielder could cost around £20m. Schneiderlin played for France in their World Cup Group E game with Ecuador and has drawn admirers after a two impressive seasons in the Premier League.
Schneiderlin, 24 years old, has made 205 appearances for the Saints since joining from Strasbourg in 2008. He has played in three tiers of English football following Southampton’s relegation to League 1 and then successive promotions back to the Premier League. Like his fellow teammates he has continually coped at whatever level he is at, hence a move to one of England’s bigger clubs beckons.
