Everyone knew it was in the pipeline and now it has landed. Samsung has today taken the wraps of the small (coughs) version of the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S5 mini.
Except of course it isn’t really that mini is it! With a 4.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display it is still bigger than the iPhone 5S.
Samsung claims that the phone combines ‘the iconic design and essential features of the Galaxy S5 with a sleek and compact body.’
Ines Van Gennip, Marketing Director at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, added ‘a larger screen might not work for everyone, so the Galaxy S5 mini is great for anyone after a smartphone that they can more easily slip into their pocket or bag.’
Features wise much of the Galaxy S5 survives including IP67 certification (so it is water and rust resistant), Ultra Power Saving Mode, a heart rate monitor, fingerprint scanner and compatibility with the latest Samsung wearable devices.
It boasts a Quad Core 1.4 GHz processor and 1.5GM RAM and comes with a high-resolution 8MP camera. Needless to say works on LTE (4G) networks).
Samsung isn’t giving details of a UK launch as yet but says that it will be on sale in Russia first this month and the rest of the world soon after.
The Galaxy S5 mini, which is available in four colours Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold, will be available in Russia starting in early July with global markets to follow.
