Chelsea to swoop for Nigerian forward?

It has emerged that Chelsea could be set to further add to their strike force with a bid for Fenerbahce’d Emmanuel Emenike. The Daily Star believe that Jose Mourinho has made a £16m offer for the Nigerian who featured at this summer’s World Cup.

Emenike is 27 and currently plays in Turkey where he scored 12 goals and assisted 9 in 28 Turkish Süper Lig games. This is his second spell at the club, his first lasting 3 months where he failed to play a match. He had more success at Spartak Moscow where he found the net 21 times in 42 before his return to Fenerbahce.

Chelsea are thought to be impressed by his World Cup showing and hope that a £16m bid will be enough to prize him away without making too much of a fuss. Nigeria were unfortunate to be eliminated in the World Cup Last 16 after holding France for 79 minutes before Paul Pogba and a Joseph Yobo own goal sent the Africans home.

Emenike would be the second striker to join Chelsea this summer following the £32m deal for Diego Costa that was agreed yesterday. This is after a season in which Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba failed to score regularly at Stamford Bridge.
