Southampton last week rejected Liverpool’s £20m bid for their defender Dejan Lovren but it is understood by the Daily Star that if they add another £5m to the price then he’s theirs.
Lovren, 25 years old, is a Croatian international who has 28 caps including the 3 group games at this summer’s World Cup. He played 31 league games last season for the Saints and won many admirers with Liverpool, Arsenal and his old boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham all interested.
Lovren was disappointed not to be consulted as Southampton rejected the Reds bid for him. He has since said: “I found out about the bid from other people which disappointed me and I realised I’ve got no business staying at Southampton. Liverpool sent a £20m offer and they paid £9m for me, so they would’ve earned more than twice the amount.” It looks like Lovren will be off this window, Liverpool the destination he favours.
Southampton will have to start buying some players soon after Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana have all left the club and Lovren along with Morgan Schneiderlin look set to follow suit.
