Chelsea have this afternoon confirmed the deal for young Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split. He arrives for an undisclosed fee.
Pasalic has only played one season of full, professional football but impressed in the Croatian league where he made 32 appearances and scored 11 times. He was born in Mainz, Germany but represents Croatia for whom he is an U21 international. He also made the 30 man provisional squad for the World Cup but did not make the cut for the final 23.
Pasalic is a central midfielder and told the Chelsea website: “My favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player”. This will certainly be a step up for the 19 year old as the facilities at the London club are second to none compared to what he may have been used to in Croatia.
It may be some time though before we see Pasalic turning out in a Chelsea shirt in the Premier League as his development will continue but for Blues fans this is a Stamford Bridge hopeful for the future!
