Joao Filipe and Joao Virginia… Heard of them? Nope, not surprised! These two 15 year olds are playing for Portuguese champions Benfica but according to the Daily Express they could be making a move to England soon.
Joao Filipe has been dubbed the next Cristiano Ronaldo and is a tricky winger who can play across the front in a range of positions. He was under offer from Barcelona earlier this season and has a contract on the table from his club Benfica. Joao Virginia is a goalkeeper who has been important to Benfica’s youth academy and also has an deal waiting from his current employers.
With Premier League clubs showing interest though it will be a struggle for Benfica to keep them with Jose Mourinho a lover of young talent, Louis Van Gaal widely acknowledged for developing youngsters, Arsene Wenger well versed in a prodigy and Liverpool having an academy of great renown.
Benfica had a successful season in Portugal by winning the Primeira Liga but lost in the Europa League final. Another continental cup final defeat and the continuation of a streak known as “The Curse of Bela Guttmann“.
