Manchester United look set to miss out on Netherlands defender Stefan De Vrij as he gets ready to chose Lazio instead. The Daily Express have reported that the 22 year old may not be appearing at Old Trafford next season as expected.
United were heavily linked with De Vrij because his Holland boss, Louis Van Gaal, will of course be taking over the Red Devils next season. It was thought he would join his country teammate Robin Van Persie in the Premier League but perhaps this is not the case.
De Vrij has had an excellent World Cup with the Dutch and even scored in the 5-1 thumping of Spain in the Group B opener. He has played 16 times on the full international stage since making his debut against Belgium in August 2012.
Feyenoord are his current employers for whom he made 32 Eredivisie appearances last season but Lazio of the Serie A claim that they will be the ones to sign him. Their Sporting Director said, “His agent has said clearly that he has never been to Manchester to meet with the English club. De Vrij’s will is to play in Lazio.”
