As we reported earlier this week, we expected this deal to be completed soon and BBC Sport yesterday confirmed that former Newcastle United right back has now joined Arsenal on a long term contract.

The deal comes in the wake of Bacary Sagna’s departure from the Emirates as he joined Manchester City on a free transfer.

Debuchy, 28, joins the Gunners after completing 18-months in the Premier League with Newcastle where he greatly impressed manager, Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman also was a part of his countries World Cup campaign in Brazil, as speculation of his move to Arsenal increased; it was only a matter of time before a deal came to fruition.

Now the deal has been completed, Arsene Wenger has reasoned as to why he chose Debuchy ahead of other targets such as Ivorian, Serge Aurier – “He is a quality defender who has good Premier League experience and I’m confident he will fit in very well with us,” said the Arsenal boss. “He has shown he can perform at the highest level with his club sides and also for France.”

Debuchy himself has reiterated the point that he chose Arsenal to play at a high standard and the lure of Champions League football was too much to turn down, “I’m very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the whole world. I’m looking forward to working with Arsene Wenger and to helping the team build on last season’s FA Cup success”, said the Frenchman.

“Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.”

As the new looking Arsenal squad begins to take form, who else will fans see join this ever growing and developing squad?
