Luiz Suarez has completed his £75m move to Barcelona from Anfield and so Brendan Rodgers is looking for a replacement. The Metro report that Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema could be an option
Benzema has scored 72 goals in 159 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos and his prowess up-front could be exactly what Liverpool need. The fee suggested though would be a club record for the Reds of around £40m. This would top the £35m paid for Andy Carroll as a replacement for Fernando Torres when he completed a £50m to Chelsea in January 2011.
Benzema had a strong World Cup group stage this summer in Brazil as he scored twice in France’s 3-0 victory over Honduras and then once more in the 5-2 win against Switzerland. His international tally is 24 goals in 71 caps for Les Bleus.
He has sometimes been criticised in his time in Spain but scored 24 in all competitions last season as Real Madrid lifted their 10th Champions League trophy.
Liverpool have already been busy in the transfer market so far adding Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazer Markovic to their squad that will return to the Champions League come September.
