Southampton are lining up a bid to sign Celtic star, Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch defender has been given a hefty £10m price tag to put off potential suitors, but it seems the Premier League side aren’t backing down that easily.
According to the Mirror, new man at the helm Ronald Koeman is looking to strengthen his depleted Southampton side after losing many key players this summer with more expected to leave. Should the Saints get their man, it would appear that Dejan Lovren would be moving closer to exiting St Mary’s as he looks to find pastures new at Anfield.
Koeman wants to bring in the 23-year-old to begin a new era at St Mary’s which seems to be following the recurring motif of Dutch players. Koeman, who is from the Netherlands himself is also eyeing up a move for the “Dutch Xavi” in the form of Jordy Clasie; a player whom he worked with at his time at Feyenoord.
Whilst Southampton have been knocked for six after several clubs have raided their ranks for top players, it does mean there is a hefty amount of money left in the transfer kitty to bring in players of their own.
Will van Dijk be on his way to St Mary’s?
