Jan Vertonghen has given Tottenham fans a boost today as he announced he is willing to sign a new contract with the club. The Belgian has been in high demand after impressing for club and country of late as whispers from Spanish giants, Barcelona have come calling for the defender.
Despite those claims, Vertonghen is ready to put the rumours to rest and remain loyal to Spurs according to The Mirror. Spurs have attempted to fight off any competitors by offering Vertonghen a new deal with the club, said to be around £60k a week as his current contract only has 2-years-remaining.
The 27-year-old has spoken out about his situation, saying ” It goes without saying that I would like to stay at Tottenham. I still had a four-year contract but I see that they have offered me a new five-year contract as a great sign of confidence.”
Spurs fans will be feeling a whole lot better about the saga now as Vertonghen has publicly given his confidence in Tottenham and obviously believes in the new set-up that Pochettino is building at the London club.
