Karim Benzema has been linked to Liverpool, Arsenal and PSG all summer long but now his future has finally been resolved. The Frenchman will be staying at Real Madrid until 2019 as the club confirm he has signed a new contract.
Benzema signed for Real Madrid in July 2009 following a €35m move from French club Lyon for whom he had scored 66 goals in 148 games. Karim struggled in his first season in Spain and only scored 8 La Liga goals in 27 appearances but following a number of campaigns vying for the main striker role between himself and Gonzalo Higuain he was favoured as the Argentine was sold to Napoli.
Benzema now has 111 Real Madrid goals in 235 games (in all competitions) and has won La Liga once, 2 Copa del Rey titles, the Supercopa de España and the 2014 UEFA Champions League. Following this most recent season and 17 league goals Karim was strongly linked to a move away from the Spanish capital with Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG all chasing his signature.
The Frenchman has represented his country on 71 occasions where he has scored 24 goals including 3 at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Obviously Benzema has done enough to convince manager Carlo Ancelotti he deserves his place at Santiago Bernabéu and it will be an important season for him to prove his worth with supply coming from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez.
