Man United and Tottenham set for Depay battle

PSV Eindhoven are bracing themselves for a bidding war as Tottenham Hotspur get ready to nab Manchester United target Memphis Depay away from the Red Devils. Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and the Daily Star report the offer for the 20 year old would need to around £16m to complete the deal.

Depay, aged 20, has been at PSV since 2006 and has made 60 Eredivisie appearances the Rood-Witten. The winger is considered a hot prospect amongst European clubs and it is believed that Man United and Tottenham lead the way for his signature.

Recently Depay has been quoted as saying: “I have done my time at PSV but if nice clubs from big leagues ask, I will think about it.” This will certainly interest Louis Van Gaal and Mauricio Pochettino as they seek out the World Cup star.

Memphis Depay has 10 caps for his native Netherlands and he would definitely add to both squads as Van Gaal seeks to rebuild Manchester United after their difficulties last season; whilst Pochettino has to turn around Tottenham’s fortunes that have perhaps seen them fall behind Everton in the race for the Champions League spots.

Manchester United will feel they currently hold an advantage in attracting Depay to Old Trafford as Van Gaal was of course his Head Coach for Netherlands in this summer’s World Cup.
