It’s a transfer rumour that has been going on throughout the summer but according to the Daily Mirror it is nearly completed. Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala is set to move to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium for £32m.
The French centre-back (who can also play left-back) is only 23 years of age and moved to Porto from Standard Liège for €7.5m in August 2011. At 6ft 2in Mangala will be a solid addition to Man City defensive line alongside Vincent Kompany.
Mangala has 3 caps for France and has also played 51 Portuguese Primeira Liga games for Porto. He has won many admirers across Europe with Chelsea and Manchester United thought to have been interested in his signature before Man City led the race.
The delay has come because the clubs could not agree a way to structure payments for the player and suffered a blow when a video was posted on the Manchester City website showing Mangala as a City player. The clip was apparently uploaded too early with images of his medical and arrival in the North-West but it could soon be re-released if the deal is finally sorted in the next 48 hours.
