News have broken that PSG have pulled out of a bid to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria after the club described him as “too expensive”. Are Manchester United back in the hunt for the Argentine?
The Guardian contains the quote from Paris Saint Germain president Nassel Al-Khelaifi: “We spoke to Real about Di María but he was too expensive.” This of course is fantastic news for the Red Devils who looked to have missed out on Di Maria who was brilliant in the last 6 months of last season.
David Luiz cost the French champions £40m and has recently been unveiled but due to strict conditions over the Financial Fair Play rules laid out by Europe’s governing body UEFA, it appears that another big fee for Di Maria is not possible.
Di Maria joined Real Madrid from Benfica for €25m in June 2010 and has since played 124 times in La Liga, scoring 22. He is a great assist maker and despite being told he was not going to be used last season, proved his manager wrong and showed his importance to the Champions League winners.
At 26 and with 52 Argentina caps, Angel Di Maria will be an excellent purchase for any side and if Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United can secure his signature then that will be a significant boost ahead of the new campaign.
