Yesterday we reported how Liverpool were in a battle with Manchester City and Real Madrid for Monaco forward Radamel Falcao. However, it now appears Real Madrid are set to win that race and so the Liverpool Echo believe the Reds will switch their attention to PSG striker Edinson Cavani.
With Luis Suarez now a Barcelona player, Brendan Rodgers will have to act before the end of the transfer window to find an adequate replacement with Daniel Sturridge and £4m signing Rickie Lambert his only other options.
27 year old Cavani has 22 international goals in 63 caps for Uruguay and netted 16 times in Ligue 1 for PSG last season following his €64.5m move from Napoli. Cavani spent 3 seasons in Naples after the club paid €17m for his services in July 2010. He was incredibly impressive in Serie A netting 26 in 35 league games in his debut season, 23 in 35 the next year and then 29 in 34 before PSG paid the eye-watering fee him.
Liverpool have spent heavily this season and after receiving £75m for Luis Suarez are able to add a big money forward to their ranks ahead of the season opener. Swansea’s Wilfried Bony was another option on the table with a reported £19m bid being considered.
Who would you prefer Liverpool fans: Falcao? Bony? or Cavani?
