Manchester United are rumoured to be increasing their efforts to sign Dutch defender Daley Blind as Louis Van Gaal looks to strengthen his defence with a powerful left-footed defender and potentially experiment with a 3-5-2 formation.

After losing key defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, United have a gap to fill and 24 year old Blind not only fits the bill but he also has a good relationship with the team’s new boss as he was one of the key players Van Gaal’s World Cup squad.

Van Gaal has been looking for good defensive options, preferably capable of playing in a left wing/side of centre back and with United not looking likely to sign Thomas Vermaelen Blind has emerged as the favourite to land at Old Trafford. Blind started as left back for Holland in the World Cup, but he can also play in the midfield too.

His club seem resigned to losing him with Ajax’s youth team coach telling Dutch media Heldenonline, ‘I think Daley Blind will be leaving soon. I have a feeling.’ He went on to say, ‘He has been training by himself. I think he has done that, because there’s something going on.’
