Manchester United may have missed out on Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona today but reports from Italy suggest that they will soon be the proud owners of Juventus star Arturo Vidal. ForzaItalianFootball.com believe that the deal is edging closer to completion.
It has been a long standing saga through this summer which was disrupted by the World Cup in Brazil but the transfer worth around £45m would break the Manchester United all-time transfer record should it go through. The one issue remaining following the agreement of personal terms and a fee by the clubs is the medical. Louis Van Gaal is understood to be concerned about the Chilean who has had a history of injury problems with his knees and ankles.
Vidal is a no-nonsense midfielder who has represented his country Chile on 54 occasions, scoring 8 times. He has become hot property across European after a number of impressive seasons for Juventus since his €10.5m move in July 2011. Despite being predominately defensive minded he has notched 28 goals in 95 Serie A appearances, 11 of those coming in the 2013/14 campaign. New Juventus boss Max Allegri was hoping to convince Vidal to stay and offered him the chance to play further forward in these coming months but it looks like Vidal’s destination is now the Premier League.
Louis Van Gaal has gone about revamping the Red Devils squad as he seeks to bring Champions League football back to Old Trafford in May. David Moyes had a disastrous tenure at the helm and the new dutch coach has brought in midfielder Ander Herrera and left-back Luke Shaw for a combined fee of £56m.
