Arsenal after Liverpool defender

Arsenal are looking to deploy a surprise bid for Liverpool defender, Daniel Agger. The Dane is said to be seeking a move away from Anfield and Arsenal are ready to come in to bring in the Denmark international.

Yesterday, Thomas Vermaelen’s deal to Barcelona was agreed as he awaits confirmation of the transfer; leaving the Gunners lighter in the central defensive areas.

The Gunners have brought in Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy but both are predominantly full backs, however, Chambers was utilised in the centre half role and was excellent during Arsenal’s 3-0 win in the Community Shield over Manchester City.

According to the Express, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is lining up a bid for a new defender, “If I can find another centre-back I will do it”, and it appears Agger is on top of the wish list.

The Liverpool man has vocalised his desire to leave after interest from Barcelona, PSG and other big European clubs came calling. The reds splashed out £20m on Dejan Lovren who will be set to start for Liverpool whilst Martin Skrtel is preferred to Agger and Sakho is seen as back-up.

Will Arsenal be bringing in another star to the Emirates this transfer window?
