Everton win race for exciting Ghanaian winger

Everton have prized Romelu Lukaku away from Chelsea for a club record fee but they could be about to return to the club to take young winger Christian Atsu on loan too. The Daily Mail are one of a number of media groups who believe this deal could be very close.

Atsu is 22 years old and spent last season out on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, a club with close links to Stamford Bridge. He played 28 times in Eredivisie and notched 5 goals along the way as Vitesse finished 6th in the league.

Atsu was previously at Porto where he represented the side on 17 league occasions whilst being loaned to Rio Ave in 2011/12 where he played 27 league games scoring 6. He was an important figure in Ghana’s 2014 World Cup squad in Brazil where he played in every one of his nation’s Group G games against Portugal, USA and eventual winners Germany.

He has 26 caps and 4 goals for the Black Stars and with a bright future ahead of him a loan move to Roberto Martinez’s Toffees could be vital in the winger’s development as a Premier League star.
