Liverpool close to Alex Song transfer

Liverpool have been heavily linked to Alex Song in recent weeks but according to The Metro and ‘Sport’ newspaper in Spain, the deal could be very close.

Alex Song, formally of Arsenal, played 150 league games in Britain including 12 on loan at Charlton Athletic before Barcelona paid £15m for his services in August 2012. Following his move to Spain he has struggled to become a regular in the star studded squad and has only played 39 games in two seasons. It is thought that new Barça manager Luis Enrique would be more than willing to let the Cameroon international depart for a reduced fee.

Liverpool are believed to have tabled an offer, perhaps worth £8m, for the defensive midfielder and with Galatasaray also in the mix, Barcelona are willing to accept both bids. A Premier League return is thought to be Song’s preferred destination with the Anfield club front runners.

Alex Song has 47 Cameroon caps but was embarrassingly sent off in his country’s 4-0 loss to Croatia at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil. He elbowed striker Mario Mandžukić in the back and was forced to apologise to the player and his country.

Song enjoyed his time in the Premier League before, do you think he would be a good addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad?
