Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both hunting Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin. TalkSport are one of a number of outlets reporting a deal for the Colombian international was close for Tottenham but now Louis Van Gaal has joined the battle for his signature.
Fredy Guarin is 28 years old and joined Internazionale in June 2012 for €13.5m following his 6 month loan spell the season before. Guarin has played 64 Serie A games for Inter and was actually close to leaving the club in January as part of an exchange for Juventus forward Mirko Vučinić. The deal was almost completed with both players saying goodbye to their respective teammates but the transfer fell through and in March Guarin extended his Inter contract.
Guarin is a central midfielder but he can also play out on the right and is a creative force in any side. Louis Van Gaal (Manchester United) and Mauricio Pochettino (Spurs) could both do with an addition like him to their squad and despite a contract running to 2017 will be hopeful the fee won’t break the bank.
Fredy Guarin has represented his country, Colombia, 51 times since making his debut in May 2006 and has scored 4 goals. His only competition successes though have come with Porto where he won 3 league titles and the UEFA Europa League amongst his 10 trophies for the club. Perhaps a desire to win a few more medals before his career ends will be an influencing factor in a possible move to Britain and the Premier League.
