Southampton have had their official bid for Spurs winger Andros Townsend rejected according to Sky Sports.
Sky Sports sources have indicated that the bid was said to be in the region of £10m. However, Spurs clearly envisage Townsend to be worth more than what the Saints are offering and quickly quashed the bid.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has clearly identified Townsend as a replacement for Lallana who left to join Liverpool this summer. Koeman will now have to either rebuff his bid for the England winger, or look elsewhere depending on his budget.
Despite the heavy competition for places in the Spurs midfield, it is believed that Townsend is to favour staying put at Tottenham and fight for his place in the starting XI.
Townsend burst onto the scene last season and made his England debut in in September 2013. Since then he has been hampered by injuries which have seen him fall out of favour. However, it’s that eye catching talent that seems to have excited Koeman, but will Southampton be willing to match Spurs’ valuation for their starlet?
Spurs fans, do you want to keep hold of Townsend or are you happy to cash in now?
