Football is well and truly back but so too, unfortunately, is the madness! When PSG clashed with Bastia on Saturday, the French champions were victorious 2-0 on the pitch but the battle continued after the game when Thiago Motta had his nose broken.
Reports emerged that Brandão, Bastia’s new striker, waited in the tunnel for Italian international Thiago Motta and then headbutted him before running away. Since the incident, videos have emerged showing the sensational scenes as Brandão obviously pre-meditates his attack.
PSG are understandably enraged at the vicious yet cowardly assault and have called for 34 year old Brandão to be banned for life. The striker is something of a journeyman and scored 16 goals in 53 Ligue 1 games for Saint-Étienne before signing for Bastia this summer.
New PSG defender David Luiz said about the attack: “That is not part of football. I don’t agree with this. Sometimes on the pitch you are more vulnerable with something and they speak bad things, but that’s normal in football. But when you wait for someone outside the pitch to do a bad thing. I think that’s not acceptable.”
It remains to be seen what action will be taken against Brandão, many calling for him sacking, others want to see him arrested, some believe a year ban is sufficient whilst some think a life ban is the only option. One thing has to be said, if Suarez saw a 4 month ban for his biting then the French Football Federation have to act quickly and harshly with Brandão.
What do you think the punishment should be?
