Barcelona banned from signing players

Barcelona have been banned from siging any players for two transfer windows after FIFA rejected their appeal on the transfers of minors.

Former Barcelona player Gary Lineker posted on Twitter his feelings towards the ban, a somewhat tongue and cheek opinion…

The ban states that Barca can buy and sell this window, but the next two they will not be allowed to do any business after breaching rules regarding signing players under 18.

FIFA rules state, that international transfers are only permitted for players over the age of 18 – unless the player in question meets one of three qualifying criteria.

Under-18s can move to a club in a different country if their parents move there for non-footballing reasons, if they are from another nation within the European Union or European Economic Area and aged between 16 and 18, or if they live within 100km of the club.

The Fifa investigation centred on several players aged under 18 who were registered and played for Barcelona between 2009 and 2013.

Barcelona have already sold Cesc Fabregas this window and brought in the likes of Rakitic, Vermaelen and Suarez. It seems that the Spanish giants will be doing all of their business now so that come the next transfer windows, they won’t be out of sorts.

Like Lineker posted, I guess they will have to make do with what they have.
