Both Chelsea and Arsenal are two of the Premier League teams heavily linked to 22 year old defensive midfielder William Carvalho. Portuguese media Abola state that Chelsea have bid £35m for his services.
The Angolan born midfielder currently plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and is another successful product of their immensely impressive academy system. For a player who has been at the club since 2005 the £35m fee would prove very healthy to go along with the sale of Marcos Rojo to Manchester United yesterday.
Carvalho has played for Portugal at every level and has 6 caps for the full national side since making his debut in November 2013. Carvalho was also a feature in Portugal’s World Cup squad in Brazil, showing off his talents on a world stage.
With 30 league matches under his belt for Sporting CP he also learnt his trade on loan at Portuguese club Fátima where he played 13 times and Cercle Brugge in Belgium where he played 48 times in a season and a half spell.
Is £35m too steep a fee for Chelsea to pay? Or is it Carvalho talented enough to be secured and beat off competition?
