Mixed messages coming out of Arsenal today about a potential new striker.

Despite Giroud’s ankle injury, it appears that Arsene Wenger does not want to sign a forward on a permanent deal.  According to the BBC even if Giroud’s scans show serious injury, the club has no intention of finding a permanent replacement. It seems that after splashing out a lot of cash on £35 million forward Alexis Sanchez, Wenger does not want to spend big money.

Wenger seems intent on sticking with his other attack options of Alexis Sanchez, Joel Campbell, Yaya Sonogo, Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott.

It is feared that GIroud broke his ankle after an injury during the Gunners’ 2-2 draw against Everton. A second scan will take place soon, and confirm the extent of the injury. Whether his ankle is broken will determine if he will be taking up to 3 months off.

However, despite saying he will not sign a new attacker, 33 year old Nikola Zigic’s agent is widely reported as saying that Arsene Wenger has contacted him with an offer for the lanky striker.

Zigic has just left Birmingham City as free agent, and Wenger has allegedly offered him a contract until the end of this year, with the chance of a 1-year extension after that.

The Serbian’s agent has told SPORT, “I know that Arsenal are in a hurry, but Nikola also has offers from Turkey and Switzerland.”
