Today seems to be the day for smartwatch news to come out because not only has Samsung unveiled the Gear S, LG has announced its own new watch — the G Watch R.
Unlike Samsung who has stuck with the rectangular 70s-digital-watch-style design, LG has taken a leaf out of Motorola’s book and gone for the round watch face that we’re all familiar with. Maybe that’s what the R stands for. It’s surprisingly stylish, and by looking at the picture you’d hardly know that it was a smartwatch.
The G Watch R comes with 1.3-inch Plastic OLED (aka P-OLED) 320 x 320 display, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, and a 410mAh battery, with a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor running the show. It runs on Android Wear, promises to be viewable even in the brightest sunlight from all angles, and is water resistant for up to 30 minutes under a metre of water.
The G Watch R will also come with an interchangeable leather strap, which is good because rubber watches just look tacky.
We don’t know when the G Watch R will be released, nor do we know how much it’ll cost. What we do know is that LG will be giving us a closer look at IFA next week, so we should find out a bit more then. [LG via Digital Trends]
