Five deadline day predictions! Featuring Man Utd & Arsenal

Defoe has played for Redknapp before

Deadline day is once again upon us! The twice a year occasion where all football fans are glued to the television, the radio and social media in the hope their club sign a fantastic player late on. Well with around 10 hours to go, here is my predictions for the rest of deadline day:

Manchester United sign big but ignore the void at the back

We earlier reported on Manchester United’s massive loan deal for AS Monaco and Colombia striker Radamel Falcao. The deal, thought to be worth up to £25m including his wages for the season, is a coup for the Red Devils and Louis Van Gaal, especially when you consider the deal for Angel Di Maria last week. However, the concern is still at the back and this is something seemingly ignored by Manchester United who lack a strong, experienced centre-back to fit their 3-5-2 formation. Will Falcao be the catalyst for an Old Trafford turn around or will the lack of additions at the back be costly?

Harry Redknapp to sign a bunch of players he has worked with before

Of course deadline day is the day that gets Harry Redknapp excited like no other, it appears that this summer will be no different. His QPR side have made a number of strong additions but as much as we expect an interview from his car window at some point today, we also expect him to re-sign a number of old players. Lassana Diarra played for ‘Arry in his Portsmouth days and rejoined him last night, now Jermain Defoe is being heavily linked. Defoe has notably played under Redknapp at Portsmouth and Tottenham and is vastly experienced in the Premier League. Now in Canada where he has notched 11 in 16 for Toronto it seems like a return could be imminent.

Arsenal to do nothing

Arsene Wenger isn’t even in the country according to Sky Sports News and despite Olivier Giroud’s long term injury it seems that no new faces will join the club. Sami Khedira and a striker have been rumoured to be close to Arsenal moves but it seems as though neither will happen. Khedira has been given a second Real Madrid chance as Xabi Alonso left the club whilst Chelsea took Loic Remy, Falcao is being loaned to Manchester United and even Jermain Defoe is set for QPR. It means Yaya Sanogo is the only proper striker for the Gunners and after being unable to finish Leicester City off on Sunday, I think the lack of movement late on in the window will cost them.

A number of Liverpool outgoings

Brendan Rodgers will be delighted with the number of additions he has made to his Anfield squad this summer and the 3-0 destruction of Tottenham yesterday proves their strength. However his team has a lot of ‘dead wood’ so I expect there to be a number of players on the way out, Sebastian Coates linked to Sunderland, Oussama Assaidi linked to Stoke City and Fabio Borini linked to a number of Premier League destinations. Borini is the one worth watching today: Sunderland lodged a £14m bid around 6 weeks ago but since then the player has not agreed the switch. Will QPR enter the race? Will Arsenal surprise us all and make a shock move to provide cover up front?

Tottenham Hotspur desperately try and improve their squad

Tottenham started the season well but were then once again pummelled by Liverpool at White Hart Lane. This has led to a number of rumours that Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck will be joining the London outfit to bolster their attacking options. Morgan Schneiderlin has also been desperate for a move to Spurs all summer. Mauricio Pochettino would love to tie up a deal for the French midfielder but Southampton refuse to let him leave. With Spurs having deadline day previous, will they once again go big and land their targets?
