A deal that has got me all excited today is the recent news that Aston Villa have lodged an official bid to bring 23-year-old Spaniard Sergio Canales to the Premier League. The attacking midfielder joined Real Sociedad in January this year from Valencia for €3.5m but now could be heading for the Midlands.
BBC Sport are reporting the potential transfer with Pat Murphy confirming: “Aston Villa have made an undisclosed bid for Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Sergio Canales. Villa’s bid does not mean their interest in Tom Cleverley is over – but that one’s now with the player’s camp.”
Aston Villa are set to be busy today if they can secure Tom Cleverley from Manchester United and Sergio Canales from Real Sociedad, both of whom are impressive signings by Paul Lambert. Canales has 10 Spain U21 caps but is yet to make the call up to the full national side, is the Premier League the break the exciting attacker needs?
Canales played for Sociedad last night in their remarkable win against Real Madrid, coming from 2-0 down after 10 minutes to win 4-2. The fee has not yet been announced and this one could go right to the wire as the 11pm deadline looms.
