Smartphones as a general rule aren’t particularly sturdy creations, which is why a lot of people buy cases to keep them protected from the various mishaps that may befall them. You know, like being dropped in the toilet or run over by a car. Well if you have some sort of aversion to putting your phone in a protective case you have another option: the Cat S50, because it isn’t actually in a case, it just looks like it is.
You can’t deny it’s toughness credentials, since it comes it a shockproof rubber chassis, a 4.7-inch shatter-proof Gorilla Glass 3 display, IP67 waterproofing, and rust-resistant metal bits. Unfortunately it’s hardware isn’t nearly as impressive. The S50 comes with a 1.2GHz processor, an 8MP camera, a 720p display, and 8GB of expandable storage. Normally that wouldn’t be a bet set of specs if they were reflected in the price, but the S50 is going to cost around £500 later this year.
The price of a flagship phone with the specs of a budget handset? I don’t think so. If you’re looking to spend that kind of money you’d be better off buying a better phone and a sturdy case to keep it safe. [Gizmodo UK]
