Brazilian legend, Ronaldinho has decided to choose Mexico has his latest career move. The attacking midfielder was touted with a move to the Premier League with QPR, but it seemed to all be rumours. However, as a free agent; non-league Basingstoke Town had publicly expressed their desire to sign Ronaldinho according to BBC Sport.
“We’ve put an offer to his brother, who is his agent, and look forward hearing back from him,” Basingstoke marketing director Simon Hood told BBC South.
“We took a look at the transfer list to see which players were available,” added Hood.
“We were shocked to see that Ronaldinho was a free agent and thought what better way for him to get back into football than to play for Basingstoke Town.
“We are third in the table and it would be great for not only Basingstoke but non-league football.”
The audacity of the bid sent Basingstoke Town into the stratosphere on social media as the press went wild for the potential arrival of one of the worlds greatest players.
However, a quick reality check ended speculation and on Saturday, Ronaldinho had revealed he had joined Mexican side, Queretaro on a free-transfer, according to BBC Sport.
The former Barcelona man took to Twitter to reveal his latest move, “I chose Mexico for the affection I have always received here. I am very motivated to represent Queretaro.”
What a transfer story this could have been for Basingstoke Town.
