Manchester United are said to be lining up a huge £40m bid for Argentinian international, Nicolas Otamendi. Currently on the books at Valencia, Otamendi was loaned out last season to Brazilian side, Atletico Mineiro.
However, this season he has been regarded as a first team player for the Los Che and has since been drawing the plaudits after some impressive performances.
Despite impressing, it seems a couple of good games can inflate a players price dramatically. £40m is a lot of money, especially for a player who was not required for Valencia last season.
Whilst Van Gaal has mentioned Otamendi could be a player to help United eradicate their poor defensive displays, Valencia will be unwilling to let their defender leave without a fight.
According to the Express, United are ready to unleash a £40m bid in January; a deal that Valencia would have to accept as it would trigger the Argentines release clause.
As fans may be spitting feathers at the extortionate amount of money being thrown about with Otamendi’s name, they will on the other hand be welcoming any positive defensive additions to their frail looking back four.
