Liverpool step up bid to sign Gonzalo Higuain

Liverpool have been repeatedly linked with Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain for a number of months now. The transfer didn’t materialise in the summer but as the club currently struggle for goals, believe a deal could be on the cards.

With pressure beginning to mount of Brendan Rodgers, who appears to have failed to replace talisman Luis Suarez since his £65m sale to Barcelona, it now seems that Lucas Leiva plus £22m may be offered. The Italian club are also struggling under former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez and despite Mario Balotelli being brought to Anfield from Milan for £16m, 26-year-old Higuain would offer guaranteed goals.

Liverpool lost again mid-week away to FC Basel in the Champions League and were considerably the poorer side so to help convince Napoli to sell it seems cash plus one of Rafa Benitez’s favourite players in Lucas Leiva could be considered a viable deal. Higuain has 17 Serie A goals in 36 games for Napoli and with Daniel Sturridge often an injury concern this would ease Reds’ fans woes significantly.

Higuain played 190 times in La Liga for Real Madrid and scored 107 goals and also has 22 goals in 43 Argentinean caps. This pedigree would be valued in the Premier League if they can convince Higuain to make the move from Italy. It is thought he could be tempted because of Napoli poor form and failure to secure a Champions League place.

Would Gonzalo Higuain be a good signing for Liverpool? Would he come?
